Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance News - GameReplay Tournament's Best Replay
The 50+ man tournament featuring the most of the best Forged Alliance players known the community, as you would've guessed, had many top class replays all across the range of maps and factions. Mephistophile's Open Palms win over Kyro, Ridley's win over TAG_ROCK_ and many more!
But, the one replay that stood above them all was the UEF tug of war between Duris_ and Matiz_pl_ on one of the maps brought in with Forged Alliance, Williamson's Bridge. The expert match up consisted of Tactical missiles flying around, Mongoose projectiles exploding, Lobos being dropped straight over the enemy army into the main base and whatever else you'd expect from an exhilarating replay that wins a 'best replay'. A congratulations to the players for winning this competition, and a prize from the GPG store.
The replay can be found in our Forged Alliance replay section, enjoy watching!

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance News - Angel Supreme video completed!
Phil "Rake" Lostaunau has finally finished his Forged Alliance fanmade movie Angel Supreme. It's about 7:30 minutes long and it's worth watching every single second of that time.
Here is Rake's description:
QUOTERecap: This is a slow rock video, consisting of FA in-game footage from replays, skirmishes and the SP campaign. It plays to the instrumental track "Love Sex & Money Reprise" by Gravity Kills, and the song "Tourniquet" by Evanescence. It is 7:30 in length, and compressed with Xvid.
Various downloadlinks aplenty:
HD download - 455 MB, 1024x768 (stream online)
Small download - 115 MB, 512x384 (stream online, but messed up)
GameTrailers stream (not online yet)

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance News - Battle Tactics and Unit Control - The Guide
Our newest member to the Forged Alliance staff, djj07 has created his first guide, which can be found on the portal. The guide outlines how to control your units on a larger scale to get the most out of them!
The guide's sections consist; Local Fire Superioty - how more units leads to fewer causalities. Formation Move and Attack Direction - how the movement of units effects battle, and how to make use of this. Efficient Unit Control - 'attack where it hurts'. Offensive Regrouping - organisation is bliss. And a lot more that can you can find here!
The introduction from djj07 is as follows:
'The outcome of the match is always defined by the means of economy and unit control. The emphasis is approximately 50-50 and you cannot win if your skill is seriously lacking in either one of them relative to your opponent. This tutorial is about methods to improve the efficiency of units you have built by proper usage of formations and small-scale tactics. The document is intended for a player of beginner to intermediate skill and assumes that you know how to assign the correct movement and attack orders.'
Happy killing.

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance News - Galactic War - Conquer The Galaxy
Almost 2 months after the first mention of the program on Supreme Commander's official forums, the beta has quickly arrived to give Forged Alliance players a go at what is a magnificent creation.
Galactic War is a java, peer to peer application where you (with your chosen faction), aim to conquer the galaxy over many different planets, exploring the whole range of Forged Alliance's maps in an attempt to eliminate all opposition. You start with your portion, 41 planets and attempt to conquer other planets, be it by yourself or with allies. While this is happening you also required to defend your own planets, to ensure you don't lose them. While it is not turn based, there is an element of strategically thinking, from looking at the Galactic War application to killing your enemy's ACU in the actual game.
To conquer a planet you must take over all its territories, you have the choice to play a 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4, a player (or players) from the opposition must defend within a countdown or the planet/territory is auto-given to the attacker.
Of course there is far too much for to explain, quantum gateways, ratings, unknown planets, accessibility etc so I request you go to the official thread to find out more.
The current stage is an open beta with 80 places (unfortunately all taken). However the release shouldn't be far off, stay in tune!

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance News - Replay of the Week
Melkor-ISU vs TAG_ROCK_
vs
This week we have a tough game on Fields of Isis, a map well-known for the possibility of either crazy T1 spam or quick teching to T3 and even experimentals. Both players go the teching route, with Air Superiority Fighters, Restorers, Harbingers, and several Monkeylords and Galactic Collosi. Best of all is the ending...

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance News - 1v1 Tournament Replay Contest
Can all participants of the 1v1 tournament that was held a few days ago on the 20th of April please head over this thread and post your best replay from the tournament (in that thread, not here).
The participants of the best replay of the tournament will receive a poster from the GPG online store! To enter, simply post a replay that you played in during the tournament. Each person may only post one but can participate in an unlimited number - so if you post one game and someone else posts a different game that you played in, it is okay. The best will most likely be chosen in two steps: GR staff will eliminate all but 2-4 and then have a poll for the overall best replay. A very creative replay is just as good as a very skilled replay, so don't be afraid if your play wasn't perfect. You can put the replays here, since no bug will prevent uploading to the forums. There were lots of great games in the tourney, so get posting! We'll give you until Sunday morning to submit your game.

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance News - "Making of SupCom"-interview with Chris Taylor
CVG has published an interview with Chris Taylor on their site. The general theme of the article is the making of Supreme Commander and it's definitely an interesting read.
Other topics of interest are the prospect of Supreme Commander 2 and how Gas Powered Games has learned from the high system requirements of SupCom.
QUOTE* Our goal from the beginning was to have all the units of the UEF, Cybran and Aeon clearly differentiated, have them move differently, have different-looking weapons, and feel like they had different philosophical fighting styles. That was the hardest thing of all to do, and in the end we sort of fell back to tanks and artillery - but at least we tried.
* The guys who had to roll up their sleeves and test the game had a hell of a job. They looked at me and said 'You gotta be kidding right?' as they only had two or three months to balance the game. I just said 'Do your best,' and they did great for that first balancing, and better with each iteration. What we have today is really terrific. That's all you can ask for - but there's never enough time for balancing.
* We were definitely trying to capture the spirit of what we'd done on TA. However, Supreme Commander is not Total Annihilation 2 - if that game had been made, it would have been very different.
* For the expansion, the tuning was softened up a lot more to make Forged Alliance a lot faster, and make the experimental units easier to build, plus the UI was overhauled. I actually think it's a better game.
* I've been told by my engineers that for Supreme Commander 2, I don't have enough memory in a PC with 4GB of RAM to have more factions. I'm like 'that's insane!', so we've got to work that one out. We'll return to the SC universe again, but we'll just have to see when that day is. Maybe when everybody has 64-bit processors...
* On SC, we learned a big lesson that you really can't go too hard on system specs, because you need to make sure that the game can run on a lot of hardware. We pushed very hard, and although the game is very high-tech and state-of-the-art, it did cut out the lower-end systems.
There is no mention of The Experimentals addon in the whole article though.

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance News - Mentoring Round 5 Has Begun!
The fifth instalment of Supreme Commander mentoring is upon us. To find your mentor and mentee pairings go to the official thread. This is the second Forged Alliance mentoring program, and as the title would suggest, the fifth overall.
Unfortunately because of a lack of mentors some mentees were unable to be paired. If anyone one would like to take the role of a mentor, or if a current mentor wants to take on another contact, Poita_ ASAP.
You can find your thread links in the post, and also in the 'Game mentoring' forum. It's recommended that your bookmark your thread(s) to make checking easier! Keep your mentoring to your thread; you can attach replays to your posts so there's no need to post them in the replay section -- unless you want to!!

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance News - After The War - A Supreme Make-Over
10 years have passed since the signing of the Treaty of Halcyon, a non-aggression pact between the three factions of Aeon, Cybran and UEF. The bitter war that cost billions of lives and was fought over hundreds of planets came to an abrupt and shuddering halt. While Black Sun had been dismantled, the threat of total catastrophe was enough to force the factions into a shaky cease fire.
Probably one of the biggest mods in Forged Alliance; Project leader Recon has not only created a fully working, extreme improvement of Supreme Commander, but is also well into the beta stages of the Forged Alliance mod. With the mod currently in beta stage 18, the list of changes is extremely comprehensive (although not actually logged, except from each stage).
With a lot of interesting changes it's almost a new game; the veterancy system has been completely written, and with AIx experience I can safely say you would probably want the mod implemented in ranked. Even the sizes of units have been altered so the ratio of size is much more original and realistic, while still keeping that fun gameplay.

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance Portal News - Replay of the Week
BlueScreenISU and ICG- vs _PINK and Melkor-ISU
vs
This week's Replay of the Week is a fierce 2v2 between Bluescreen and ICG- & _PINK and Melkor-ISU on Four-Leaf Clover. The replay also won the Silver Replay award.
An overview of the game by Gnats3:
"This is a very nice game, with solid play by all 4 players. T1, T2, and even a few T3 units fight it out in the center, with some upgraded ACU's barely escaping without creating an ACU-explosion chain. T1 arty drops, ACU upgrades, and frequent back-and-forth fights make this definitely worthy of Silver. It's also nice to see a game with all 4 factions represented."

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance Portal News - Fanmade Galactic War coming!
A new community project called Galactic War has been announced on the official forum as this multiplayer metagame will soon enter open beta. While this beta will be in French, the full version will be multilingual.
Both the announcement thread and the official site of Galactic War are sparse with any information although more news and screenshots will be made available soon. In general, this new online program will exist next to GPGnet and will allow you to pick one of the four sides (UEF, Cybran, Aeon and Seraphim) to fight for territory on a universal map which will keep track of the victories and losses.
French community site Supreme Commander Alliance (SCA) has recently also revealed more tidbits about the new Galactic War. Every faction will have about 41 planets to start with (that means there are 164 planets in total). Each planet consists of several official SupCom maps and the faction which controls more than half of those maps has control over the planet as well.
Everyone who visits SCA frequently knows that a community remake of the old Galactic War multiplayer mode of Total Annihilation on Boneyards has been in the making for a while now (reportedly eight months even). For more info on the now long-gone original Galactic War, check this classic announcement.
Will the community succeed where others didn't even try (GPGnet team, I am looking at you)? Let's hope so.

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance Portal News - Roughneck River - JohanaZ_'s Latest Map
The creator of the Zorg series maps, JohanaZ_, has released yet another tasty map. This one has dimensions of 20x20. The grassland 2v2 map has been named 'Roughneck River' which, as the name suggests, contains a nice stream cutting the map into two pieces almost Canis River-esque, definitely something to look at with today's super computer.
